Superdrug Charcoal Toothpaste

Superdrug Charcoal Toothpaste

I feel like I have seen these charcoal toothpastes everywhere lately, so when I found out that Superdrug had their own version, I decided to give it a go and see what all the fuss was about. For anyone who doesn’t know, charcoal toothpaste contains activated charcoal, which is supposedly beneficial for teeth whitening and stain removal.

As somebody who used to smoke and is partial to a glass of red wine, I have always considered having my teeth whitened, so for £2.99, as opposed to the £300 which the dentist charges, it was definitely worth a shot.

First impressions:

I am actually pretty fussy when it comes to toothpaste in general. Unless they are extremely minty, I am not interested, so I was a bit concerned that I was going to be put off by the taste. A charcoal toothpaste doesn’t sound very appealing does it? Although not as minty as I normally like, the taste actually wasn’t too bad… thankfully.

Product review:

The charcoal toothpaste itself appears black when squeezed straight from the tube, but as soon as I started using it, it turned grey, and not a dark grey, it was quite a light grey, verging on being ordinary toothpaste colour. Personally, this didn’t seem too promising to me. I expect a powerful charcoal whitening product to be as black as can be. Generally speaking, other than a slight difference in the colour, it is pretty much the same as regular toothpaste.

Verdict:

In all honesty, after using the full tube, sadly I didn’t notice much difference, if any change at all. I had heard good reviews, so had high hopes, but sadly it didn’t live up to expectations.

I am  definitely glad I tried it, and as mentioned the taste isn’t too bad at all. Maybe you might have more luck with it. I am sure it probably differs from person to person, hence the good reviews it has had. You can buy it here if you are interested. Would love to hear your feedback if you try it, or your thoughts in the comments below if you already have.

Guess it might have to be a trip to the dentist, and a £300 bill after all. Or maybe I’ll review some other products first. The teeth whitening charcoal powders have caught my eye lately. Stay tuned for more teeth whitening product reviews.
